The
ls2 engine is a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine from General Motors’ LS family. It was introduced for the 2005 model year and became one of the well-known members of GM’s small-block V8 lineup. The LS2 uses an OHV (overhead-valve) design, with two valves per cylinder and a single camshaft located in the engine block. It has an aluminum block and cylinder heads and uses a 4.00-inch bore with a 3.62-inch stroke. Depending on the vehicle and calibration, the LS2 produced roughly 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque in its original applications. It was used in vehicles including the Chevrolet Corvette C6, Chevrolet SSR, Pontiac GTO, and later other performance applications. The LS2 is appreciated for its compact dimensions, relatively low weight, strong torque production, and straightforward architecture. Its compatibility with many aftermarket components has also made it popular among enthusiasts for engine swaps, racing projects, and performance builds.
